Mexican food truck reopens with new owners

Sept. 21, 2018

A Mexican food truck is back in business on West 12th Street with new owners and a new name.

Luisa Cortez and her children Maria Cortez and Juan Contreras are buying the former Linda’s Concessions truck and have renamed it Loncheria La Chiquita.

They started serving authentic Mexican food in mid-August, Contreras said.

“People always said they loved her cooking, but it’s our first time” selling it, he said of his mother’s food.

The menu features tacos, burritos, tortas and quesadillas. Meat choices include steak, tongue, cheek and chicken. Flautas, also known as taquitos, are filled with ground beef or potato.

On Sundays, Cortez, who came to the U.S. with her daughter 30 years ago, also makes special dishes such as tamales or menudo, said Contreras, who was born here. Menu updates can be found on the food truck’s Facebook page.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. weekdays, except for Wednesday when the food truck is closed. It’s open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekend. Loncheria will remain open until the temperature starts falling below freezing.

Next year, the family hopes to be able to return to the vacant lot at 4604 W. 12th St., a few blocks west of Interstate 29.
