Lunch returns at Sushi Masa with a twist

Dec. 17, 2018

Seven years have passed since Sushi Masa stopped serving lunch, but now customers can order the downtown restaurant’s sushi and Japanese dishes over the noon hour for delivery or takeout.

The restaurant started lunch delivery service through Bite Squad in September. Customers can go online and order from the full menu from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. weekdays. They can choose to have the food delivered for a fee or pick it up themselves for free.

Fumi Naoe, who owns the restaurant with his wife, Yuki, said they’re trying out the service and plan to continue “as long as I’m not losing money or it’s not affecting me or my wife or my health – we’re not as young as we used to be.”

By using Bite Squad, the only staff needed over the lunch hour is someone to prepare the food.

Naoe said it’s unlikely that table service will return at lunch.

The restaurant at 423 S. Phillips Ave. opened in 2000. It’s open for dinner from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
