Look inside the new Fernson Downtown

April 5, 2019

Fernson Downtown is getting ready for its opening Monday, and guests will notice plenty of changes.

Fernson Brewing Co.’s off-site taproom has moved from East Eighth Street to the former Bros Brasserie on Phillips Avenue. It’s holding soft-opening events this weekend in preparation for opening to the public on Monday.

“I think it’ll feel quite a bit different,” CEO Joel Thompson said. “We went with a lighter theme, so most of the walls are light gray and white, and we exposed the brick when you walk in on the north side.”

The renovation focused on highlighting some of the more historic elements of the building at 334 S. Phillips Ave.

“We lightened up the ceiling and put more attention on looking up,” Thompson said. “There are cool pieces that maybe weren’t being shown off as much as we wanted them to be, and we did some simple things to make them pop a bit.”

The menu includes chislic, street tacos, fried chicken and other sharable appetizers and desserts.

There also are board games and shuffleboard to add to the social feel of the space and plans to add more games.

“We’re excited about it, and we want to get people in there,” Thompson said. “We’re eager to get started.”

Hours are 2 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 2 p.m. to midnight Friday and 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday.
