JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars will be able soon to bring kegs, cases of wine and other high-dollar orders right to your door.

The business at 4810 S. Western Ave. plans to start offering the service potentially by the end of the month.

It’s possible because of a new state law that allows delivery of alcoholic beverages to homes and businesses under certain circumstances.

“It’s geared toward events,” JJ’s owner Tom Slattery said. “Up until this, clients have had to pick up anything that was an adult beverage, take it to their house, and then we would come in and serve it (at events).”

Once the new delivery license is approved, customers spending at least $150 can have their alcohol delivered. They have to come into the store to order and pay for it and show identification while paying and when the items are delivered.

“So I can pack coolers for customers, take it to their house or business, set up a bar with beverages they have purchased, and then I bring my team and implement a beverage service system to take the hassle away from the consumer,” Slattery said.

While he isn’t allowed to advertise free delivery, Slattery said he doesn’t plan to charge a fee.

In addition to events, he also anticipates interest in delivering kegs.

“If people come in and pick out a couple, we can take it to their home,” he said. “If someone wants to order five cases of wine and have us deliver it, we will be able to do that.”

The new service also will be helpful for corporate gift baskets, he said.

“So if someone has corporate gifts, as long as each one is $150 or more, we’ll take it wherever you want,” he said. “I’ve already got people signing up for it.”

JJ’s also is making good progress with its new location along 57th Street west of Western Avenue, Slattery said. Dirt work has started, and the plan is to start construction in September and be open early next spring.
