It’s true: Apple is slowing down your older iPhone
Have you suspected your older iPhone suddenly started slowing down?
You’re right.
Apple acknowledged to the website TechCrunch that it’s a tactic to prolong the life of the phones’ lithium-ion batteries, which “become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components.”
The company last year released an update for iPhone6, 6s and SE “to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions.” That feature now has been extended to iPhone7 with iOS 11.2, and Apple plans to add it to other products.
