Well-known author Eric Metaxas, who delivered the keynote at the 2012 National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., will headline the first-ever Sioux Falls Faith Summit on Sept. 27 at the Ramkota Exhibit Hall.

Metaxas joined the likes of Mother Theresa, Bono and Tony Blair as the keynote speaker of the national event, which was attended by the president and first lady, members of Congress and other world leaders.

That speech and his essay on the experience were put into a book, “No Pressure, Mr. President: The Power of True Belief in a Time of Crisis.: He’s also written multiple New York Times best sellers and more than 30 children’s books. He currently hosts “The Eric Metaxas Show,” a nationally syndicated radio program.

Organizers of the Faith Summit first learned of him when they were booking speakers for the Sioux Falls Prayer Breakfast and started following his work.

“The subjects of his biographies are people who stood against the cultural currents of their day and stood up for the principles of their faith to make a difference that resonates generations later. We believe the young people of Sioux Falls can be inspired by those examples and feel less helpless about changing the world they are facing,” said Joel Dykstra, who is one of the event organizers.

“The Sioux Falls Faith Summit is intended to bring a nationally prominent Christian speaker to Sioux Falls to make an impact for Christ in our community,” he continued.

“We have many great things happening in Sioux Falls, but sometimes it takes an outside voice to help us see the whole community and the opportunity for outreach beyond the walls of our own churches or programs. We aim to reach new people with the message of faith in Jesus in a way that is complementary to the good work that is already happening in our local churches.”

The Sioux Falls Faith Summit was organized by the Sioux Falls Prayer Breakfast, Cru City SF, Volunteers of America Dakotas and the South Dakota Prayer Coalition.

“It is very cool that these four independent ministries are working together to bring these events and this nationally renowned speaker to Sioux Falls,” Dykstra said. “By doing two events, we get more benefit while he’s here and the opportunity to attract different audiences with somewhat different emphases.”

The lunch event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $30 each and also available in tables of eight. To learn more and register, click here.

The Night Rally at Augustana’s Elmen Center runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It’s free and geared more toward students, although all are invited.

“There will be a panel of students to engage Eric in a Q&A session about the injustice that exists in the world and what relevance Jesus has in answer to those challenges,” Dykstra said. “We are excited by the response we have had so far, but we have room for many more at both events.”
