Historic Main Avenue building lands tenant with renovation, expansion

By Jodi Schwan

A Main Avenue building is almost fully leased, and construction hasn’t even started.

South Dakota Trust Company will occupy the entire first floor and part of the second floor at 212 S. Main Ave.

A rendering of the renovation planned.

Dr. Rich Brue, president of Endeavor Properties LLC, bought the historic building last year. Endeavor also will occupy a second-floor office.

“The building will be completely gutted and renovated, (and) expanded to the east, building over the rear surface lot,” he said. “The lower level will be garage parking, and the main and second floors will be office space.”

This image shows how the building will be expanded.

South Dakota Trust Company also will keep its office in the Kresge building at 10th Street and Phillips Avenue.

The Main Avenue project is expected to start soon and be done by early next summer. Koch Hazard Architects is the architect, and Gil Haugan Construction is the contractor.

There is 4,500 square feet of office space left on the second floor, which is listed with Vantis Commercial Real Estate.

The building dates back to 1909, and the expansion will almost triple its size. Former tenants Frislie Toolworks and Sioux Falls Rubber Stamp have relocated.
