Name:  Paul Thompson

Age: 32

Hometown: Brookings

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

I was headed down to spring break at South Padre Island when my car broke down in this gem of an oasis on the prairie. There is another version of the story that goes something like, I landed an internship in Sioux Falls and was fortunate enough to find a full-time job here after I graduated.

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

It is energizing knowing you live in a place that is growing with you. Sioux Falls continues to challenge its leaders to think bigger and be greater, which is an intoxicating environment to call home. Being close to family and lifelong friends is also a major staying point.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

I do feel extremely fortunate to have found a job that does not feel like a job every day. I love the creative atmosphere at HenkinSchultz and the creative people I get to work with here. The best days are when our team has worked hard to execute a campaign and then we see the success and intended outcome it brings. Is this where I add #blessed?

How did you get connected to your industry?

I became fascinated with advertising in high school when I started noticing patterns in the different TV ads I would see when watching a certain type of show. This eventually led me to the mass communication/advertising major at SDSU. Once you start to get to know some of the professionals in Sioux Falls and take your craft seriously, numerous doors start to open. Even beyond Sioux Falls, you start to recognize different people in your category and admire the work everyone does.

Describe working at HenkinSchultz in three words.

Fun, creative, thinkers.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

How about Southwest Airlines? Cheaper flights with more connections sans the restrictions would be great!

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I would love to be in a position to make a difference in this city that will have some sort of lasting, positive effect. Sioux Falls is heading in an exciting direction, how can I help?
