GreatLIFE members have a bigger space for workouts and more equipment on the west side.

The expanded 26th Street and Marion Road fitness center recently opened its new addition, which adds almost 1,500 square feet and more options for training.

“It doubled our rack space. We never had platforms there before or the ability to do dynamic lifts with rubber plates,” fitness manager Derek Domino said. “The big thing is the increased space allowed us to open up our old free-weight room and turn it into a functional strength room, basically giving people the ability to do whatever they want.”

The new addition also includes showers and additional restrooms.

The fitness center opened in early 2015 and was GreatLIFE’s first satellite fitness center.

“It’s so convenient for people who live close, and our trainer Patrick Leach has really created a good bond with the community out there on the north and central west side,” Domino said.

“We’re still putting some finishing touches on it. Our goal is to get some small-group training classes going on in there, but we’re just excited to be meeting the needs of our members there. We’ve been getting a very positive reaction.”

GreatLIFE members have 24-hour access to the gym. It’s staffed from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon  Saturday.
