‘Glamping’ resort to expand to Black Hills

A “glamping” resort offering luxury accommodations to campers is coming to the Black Hills.

Under Canvas Mount Rushmore plans to open in the summer of 2018 near Keystone.

It will offer what it calls “stylish tents,” with amenities including in-tent bathrooms and showers, king-size beds, sleeper sofas, daily housekeeping and other resort-like luxuries.

“Glamping” is an emerging tourism trend blending camping with luxury travel.

“We are thrilled to bring the Under Canvas experience to the Midwest,” co-founder Sarah Dusek said. “Under Canvas Mount Rushmore offers the perfect backdrop for families, couples and solo adventurers who are looking to explore the endless activities available in South Dakota’s expansive backyard.”

Under Canvas has camps at Zion, Moab, Yellowstone and Glacier national parks, and new properties coming to the Great Smoky Mountains and Grand Canyon in 2018.

The resorts include an on-site restaurant offering breakfast, box lunches and pioneer-inspired dinner options. Under Canvas also provided customizable itineraries for tourists, including a buffalo safari Jeep tour, panning for gold and horseback riding.
