Fresh Produce’s Ashley Bott touts city’s arts culture

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Ashley Bott, a media coordinator at Fresh Produce.

Name: Ashley Bott

Age: 23

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

I am a Sioux Falls native, born and raised.

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

I, like many people my age, never thought that I would stay in the area. I romanticized moving away to a “big city” but was quick to realize that opportunity is where you make it, and the growth of Sioux Falls lured me back. My job at Fresh Produce opened my eyes to the evolving arts culture of the city, which is continuing to grow and flourish. I am in love with the downtown community and couldn’t imagine life anywhere else right now. My family, my job at Fresh Produce and the culture of the city keep me happily here.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

I value Fresh Produce’s commitment to challenge our team and the clients we work with to think and see things differently. Making ourselves uncomfortable challenges us to produce work that really stands out. We are encouraged to live interesting lives outside of work, which provides us with unexpected perspectives when approaching projects. It’s a very unique culture, and I am so appreciative to be a part of it.

How did you get connected to your industry?

I have always been infatuated with the arts, originally going to school for graphic design. After a semester in the program, I shifted my focus to the relationship building and communication aspects of art. I graduated from SDSU as an advertising major with marketing and studio arts minors. Working in an agency setting was a no-brainer for me upon graduation, especially after my experience at Fresh Produce. Every day I am surrounded by art and creativity, while cultivating relationships with people all around the world.

Describe Fresh Produce in three words.

Authentic, corny, eclectic.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

Anthropolgie, but I am shamefully thankful it isn’t. I have no self-control.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself as a recent graduate from continued education, whether that be in a traditional setting or not. I’ll be in a place where I have explored my passions and grown personally and professionally in my career. In my free time, I will be busy tending to my urban homestead and sipping mimosas with fellow Sioux Falls leaders.
