Food-delivery service DoorDash expands to Sioux Falls

Jan. 16, 2019

DoorDash has expanded to Sioux Falls with its food-delivery service.

Customers place orders through the company’s website or app, and it lists more than 140 restaurants in the Sioux Falls area.

The area for delivery depends on the restaurant’s location.

“Customers can go to our website or app and enter their address to find out which restaurants are available to them,”said Brent Seals, DoorDash’s head of launch for Sioux Falls.

Delivery and service fees also vary by restaurant.

DoorDash’s model adds restaurants to its platform that it believes will be popular with customers.

“For those not interested in being on DoorDash for any reason, we immediately remove them from the platform upon their request,” Seals said.

“DoorDash launched 5 1/2 years ago with one goal: to help local businesses thrive by being their last-mile logistics partner. For the majority of our merchants, being on DoorDash offers not only an additional influx of customers and revenue but also presents an additional marketing opportunity.”

When restaurants sign up as DoorDash partners, they can request drivers, track orders and access analytics. They also have control over which items appear on the DoorDash menu and pricing, Seals said.

“The vast majority of menu prices on DoorDash will be the same as they are in-store,” he said. “In some cases, menu prices on DoorDash may be higher than in-store prices. We’re working to make prices even lower, so check back often.”

With the addition of South Dakota, Montana and Alaska, the San Francisco-based technology company is now in all 50 states. DoorDash was founded in 2013 by four students at Stanford University.

“We’re proud to be the first on-demand platform to offer food delivery in all 50 states,” said Tony Xu, CEO and co-founder. “In the past year alone, we’ve more than quintupled our geographic footprint from 600 to 3,300 cities across North America.”

To celebrate the 50-state milestone, DoorDash is offering 50-cent deliveries on orders of at least $10 today with the promo code FIFTY. New customers can get $5 off their first order of $15 or more with the code DASHNEW2019 through Feb. 16. They’re also are eligible for $1 delivery for 30 days on orders of $15 or more.

DoorDash continues to hire drivers, or “dashers,” for Sioux Falls.

“Dashers tell us they love DoorDash because it provides them with the flexibility and independence to work when, where and how they want to supplement their full-time job,” Seals said.

DoorDash also has started a pilot program for delivering online Walmart orders, and that’s likely to expand to Sioux Falls, Seals said.

“We are frequently on-boarding more Walmart locations through DoorDash Drive and look forward to powering Walmart delivery in Sioux Falls soon.”
