Flower shop opens in Harrisburg’s 518 Marketplace

Jan. 9, 2019

A flower shop has joined other businesses in the 518 Marketplace in Harrisburg.

NBM Flower Shop sells floral arrangements, houseplants, balloon bouquets and gift items. It also offers gift-wrapping services.

“This is my passion,” owner Nena Dyce said. “All of my life I’ve been really crazy about flowers.”

Dyce’s friend Jen McVay, whose business Not Just Cupcakes by Jen is also in the marketplace at 518 N. Cliff Ave., encouraged her to follow her dream and start the shop. Now, they’re working side by side in the marketplace, which also includes a coffee shop, prepared-meal kitchen and two home decor businesses.

Designing arrangements is something Dyce loves to do, and she’s self-taught.

“If it’s in your heart, I believe you don’t need to go learn something,” said Dyce, who moved to the U.S. 20 years ago from the Philippines.

She’s gearing up for her first Valentine’s Day and is planning to make unique arrangements, including one with a high-heeled shoe.

She keeps several bouquets ready to sell and can create specific arrangements with two or three days’ notice.

When warmer weather returns, she plans to sell potted garden flowers too.

Hours at 518 Marketplace are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The coffee shop, Gravel Road Blend, closes earlier every day and opens an hour later on Sunday. When Dyce isn’t there, Not Just Cupcakes by Jen rings up her sales.
