Washington Pavilion

Head downtown and keep the holiday spirit high with special offerings at the Washington Pavilion.

“The Polar Express” will be showing daily at the Wells Fargo CineDome throughout the week, with cocoa and cookies available to buy at the concessions counter.

The December theme at the Pavilion is Winter Weatherland, and you’ll encounter it throughout the Kirby Science Discovery Center and the Visual Arts Center with daily storytimes, science workshops and art scavenger hunts.

Mascot Radley Rex will be making appearances throughout holiday break. For his schedule, click here.

Back by popular demand, the Big Piano exhibit is available on the fourth floor of the science center, while the temporary science exhibition, Ocean Bound!, fascinates children and adults alike until Jan. 6 on the third floor. In the Visual Arts Center, see the graphic novel exhibition, Bam! It’s a Picture Book: The Art Behind Graphic Novels, before it also departs Jan. 6.

On Dec. 31 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., the Dakota Academy of Performing Arts’ music faculty, alumni and students will be presenting classical string chamber music in the Visual Arts Center.

GreatLIFE members receive half-price admission at the Pavilion on Sundays. With lots more ahead in 2019, you might want to consider a membership. That’s 20 percent off for GreatLIFE members.

GreatLIFE Suburban Lanes

Looking to burn off some holiday energy with an activity for the whole family?

Don’t forget bowling is always free for GreatLIFE members when lanes are available at GreatLIFE Suburban Lanes. Grab a diner-style lunch or snack, and watch the time fly by. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Military members also can bowl for free at Suburban through the end of the year by showing identification.

Plus, GreatLIFE members bowl for free at Empire Bowl and Sport Bowl! Click here for information.

Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park

Have you jumped at Sky Zone lately? If not, there might be some new additions you’ve missed. In the past year, the trampoline park added a free climb wall, augmented reality wall, jousting pads and a warped wall.

There are special times for toddlers from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 27 and Jan. 1. Regular hours are:

Dec. 26-28: noon to 8 p.m.

Dec. 29: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Dec. 30 noon to 6 p.m.

Dec. 31: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Jan. 1: noon to 8 p.m.

There are special “glow” evening jump events on Dec. 28 and 29 starting at 8 p.m.

Butterfly House & Aquarium

Take a brief trip to the tropics and save big at the Butterfly House & Aquarium.

GreatLIFE members enjoy half-price admission every day, so interact with tropical butterflies and marine life any day of holiday break.

There also are tropical adventure camps throughout the week, but registration is required. Click here for information.

Great Plains Zoo

Our forecast for the week is ideal if you’re a brown bear – and not bad if you want to see them in their element, either.

GreatLIFE members receive 25 percent off admission at the Great Plains Zoo every day and half off on Monday.

The zoo is closed Jan. 1 but open the rest of this week.
