First Dakota opens new south branch

First Dakota National Bank officially opens its fourth Sioux Falls branch today.

The bank built a two-story, full-service branch at 69th Street and Western Avenue last year and has since filled it with 28 employees.

“We’re thrilled. It exceeded my expectations,” said Mike Ness, president and Sioux Falls market manager. “We continue to grow so much in this town we decided not only do we need a place for our employees, but we wanted a nice-looking branch for our customers on the south side as well.”

The bank’s mortgage department is based on the second floor along with its information technology department.

“We started off intending to rent out a portion of the second floor, and as we continued to grow during the planning process, it was evident we would need it ourselves,” Ness said.

The Yankton-based bank expanded to Sioux Falls in 2003 with a downtown location. Commercial lending and private banking have been the biggest drivers of growth here, Ness added.

“And we’ve seen mortgage take off for us and cash management. It’s a growing and expanding community with a lot of banks to choose from. We just like to think we do things a little better and provide a better customer experience.”

While he said it seems like the Sioux Falls market is well covered with branches for now, Ness didn’t rule out expanding including into surrounding communities.

A ribbon-cutting for the newest branch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. today, April 4. An open house runs until 6:30 p.m.
