Featured homes on Fall Parade include massive entertaining spaces

Sept. 19, 2018

Homes that double as places to entertain family and friends are featured on the Fall Parade of Homes, a semiannual event from the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire.

It concludes this weekend, and for a $5 donation each, visitors can tour two featured homes in southwest Sioux Falls.

“It’s more of a livable and comfortable environment,” said Chuck Wiseman, owner of Complete Contracting Inc., which has an 8,000-square-foot featured home in the event.

“It seems like they end up that big getting all the features that they want.”

Many new homes are leaning toward a transitional look, using paint where stain used to be done years ago.

“And outdoor living spaces are still quite popular. A lot of people like to spend time at home with family and have a fire going,” he said.

Much of the lower level of the second feature home is dedicated to relaxing with family and entertaining with friends. It includes a game area, an enclosed hot tub and an outdoor pool.

“It’ll blow you away,” said JJ Myott, CEO of builder Jeren Homes Inc. “It’s made for entertaining.”

Both builders said their pipelines have been full, and the momentum appears to be continuing into spring.

“I think this economy has been about steady for the last five years. If you’re in construction and you’re not busy right now, you’ve got other issues you need to pay attention to,” Wiseman said.

Labor also continues to be a challenge, Myott said.

“That’s why we keep trying to pushing the younger generation to get into the field,” he said, adding that funds raised from the featured homes help support technical education.

Homes will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
