Explore Sioux Falls, win prizes with new app

From staff reports

Go on a real and virtual adventure around Sioux Falls with a new app just released by the Sioux Falls Convention and Visitors Bureau.

It “gamifies” the visitor experience in Sioux Falls, encouraging people to select a persona that matches their travel lifestyle such as “foodie,” “family first,” “outdoors” or “shopper”  and then complete trips to attractions, restaurants and shops while answering questions, taking photos or checking in through geolocation.

Tasks range from eating a dessert at a local bakery to searching for a historical landmark. The more tasks someone completes, the higher chance of winning prizes such as a free weekend getaway.

The app, created by an Arizona-based firm that works with the travel industry, fits the CVB’s digital strategy, director of marketing Krista Orsack said.

“We also wanted to create something new for visitors to use while they are in Sioux Falls that enhanced their visit and encouraged travel to all of our wonderful attractions, restaurants and shops,” she said. “We felt a ‘gamified’ app that integrated our personas offered something unique enough that was also different than why a visitor would use our website. In the digital space, we feel that games are mostly associated with or played in the app space and will encourage downloads.”

Those who are not interested in playing the game can use the app to search through a directory of things to do and places to see throughout the city.

The Visit Sioux Falls app is available for free in Apple and Google Play app stores.
