A new event centered around workforce development as well as targeted recruitment efforts are among new strategies from the Sioux Falls Development Foundation.

On Aug. 23, the foundation is partnering with the Minnehaha County and Lincoln County Economic Development Associations to host the WIN in Workforce Summit from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.

The event will start with a luncheon keynote speech, followed by three hours of breakout sessions with nine workforce development workshops led by industry leaders. It’s an opportunity to engage with other business owners and community leaders about workforce strategies that are working for them. In the meantime, the Sioux Falls Development Foundation is attracting new workers through targeted efforts.

When Bass Pro Shops acquired Cabela’s recently, it meant job losses at Cabela’s corporate headquarters in Sidney, Neb.

The Development Foundation reached out to people in transition, providing information on career and employment opportunities.

Using social media, this video was shown to people in the area to communicate that they didn’t have to leave the Midwest to explore new career opportunities.

The results produced significant reach.
