Dakota Seafood Co. will hold its grand opening Feb. 10-11 at The Bridges at 57th.

The special event will feature local chefs preparing fresh seafood in delectable ways, general manager Travis Petersen said.

“There will be samples all day from open to close, so if there’s something you’ve never tried like shark or marlin or other wonderful options, please come in and try them.”

Dakota Seafood stocks at least 14 varieties of finfish, several types of oysters and at least three species of salmon every day. Customers also will find yellowtail and grouper, urchin, three kinds of shrimp, spot prawns, plus the basics such as mussels, clam and tuna.

The business buys seafood directly from a purveyor’s dock. By creating these relationships with smaller fisheries, Dakota Seafood says its customers can be assured that all seafood is caught using sustainable methods, is in season and is packaged with quality in mind.

“Our customers are already discovering what makes Dakota Seafood different,” Petersen said. “Since we opened in mid-December, the community has truly welcomed us. Our neighbors at The Bridges have welcomed us. And people are finding their way in the door and finding really fresh, wonderful product that they’re taking home.”

In addition to seafood, customers can choose from meats, including Wagyu beef, elk, caribou and a charcuterie. Dakota Seafood also offers a selection of artisan cheeses, sauces, fresh produce, craft beer and locally made wine.

“Since we first opened, we’ve added all sorts of things from local fresh produce to more red meat options, even more fish, more variety, and we’ve done a lot of grab-and-go things prepared here for people to take home and eat,” Petersen said.

Dakota Seafood’s grab-and-go sushi, Cajun shrimp dip and scallop dip have been very popular, “and our smoked salmon spread always does fantastic.”

“People also are surprised by the amount of seasonings and spices and the entire market experience,” Petersen said. “Along with seafood, there’s a little bit of everything, so even if you’re not a seafood person or someone at your dinner table isn’t, there are options for them here.”

Grand-opening hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Dakota Seafood was founded in Rapid City in 2015. The Sioux Falls store is its second location.
