Colorado boutique owner opens Sioux Falls pop-up shop

Sioux Falls native Lisa Vanbeek hasn’t lived here in 15 years, but the holiday season seemed like a good time to come back and see if her business would fit the market.

Vanbeek owns Dylinger Wilde, a Colorado shop that calls itself “the curators of fashion and madness.”

Her product mix combines clothing with jewelry, accessories and gift items that she said “make people smile” despite – or maybe because – they include sayings that are a little snarky and inappropriate.

The merchandise is meant to be budget-friendly, she said, with nothing costing more than $100 and most items priced at less than $40.

Vanbeek went to school with Chantel Olson, co-owner of Art Moms, who also has a holiday pop-up store. Olson connected Vanbeek with the space next to Art Moms on 41st Street west of Kiwanis Avenue.

“Three weeks ago I didn’t know I was going to do this,” Vanbeek said. “That’s kind of how I roll.”

The store will help her gauge the market for a permanent location.

“So far, people have been very receptive, so it’s definitely something we’re looking at,” she said.

Vanbeek also is a cancer survivor who uses her business to give back. From 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, she will donate 10 percent of sales to the Pink Ladies, who in turn will make cash donations to 10 area cancer patients. Vanbeek created her own product line with the tagline “Suck it, cancer,” which she originally made for friends and family but started selling based on requests.

“I started that while recovering from my double mastectomy, so that’s a passion project for me,” she said.

In addition to Tuesday’s special event, Dylinger Wilde is open from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday through Dec. 30.
