Coffee roasters to educate drinkers, offer samples at Saturday event

Area coffee roasters will offer samples of their work Saturday at the first Sodak Coffee Roasters Expo.

Thadeus Giedd organized the event after observing the science that area roasters bring to their work and the lengths they go to in order to inspect their beans.

“They have a true passion for their product, business and the craft-coffee scene,” he said.

Giedd compares Saturday’s event at The Bakery to a craft beer expo for coffee brewing.

Eight roasters will be at the free event offering samples of their work and bags of their products for purchase. They are:

The Breaks Coffee Co. in Sioux Falls

Cherrybean Coffee Co. in Marion

Coffea Roasterie in Sioux Falls

Cottonwood Coffee in Brookings

Essence Coffee Roasters in Iroquois

Flyboy Coffee in Sioux Falls

Kool Beans Coffee in Brookings

The Source in Sioux Falls

“There has been an increase in the local coffee roasting,” Giedd said. “People are seeing more and more the benefit of having fresh beans at their availability and fresh grinding themselves to have ultimate freshness. People get passionate about their coffee.”

The event runs from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Bakery, 910 N. Main Ave.
