‘Category 5 General’ to speak at CVB luncheon

The general known for commanding military relief following Hurricane Katrina will speak May 8 in Sioux Falls.

Retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honore will give the keynote speech at the Visitor Industry Luncheon organized by the Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau.

He became known as the “Category 5 General” as he commanded the joint task force Katrina and Global Preparedness Authority, coordinating relief in New Orleans.

A decorated 37-year Army veteran and global authority on leadership and preparedness, Honore will share his “his no-nonsense approach to getting the job done by showing organizations how to successfully lead and execute a mission” in a presentation dubbed “authentic, uplifting and never ‘stuck on stupid.’ ”

The CVB’s annual Visitor Industry Awards also will be presented during the luncheon. Categories include Heart of the City Award, First Impressions Award and Business Award.
