The value of construction projects in Sioux Falls already has reached $80 million two months into 2019.
That’s well ahead of 2018, when the city had a record year but building permits for the first two months totaled $53.3 million. It’s also ahead of the same time in 2017, which totaled $76.7 million.
Commercial projects are well ahead of last year, with $32.8 million in additions and renovations, compared with $11.3 million last year, and $30 million in new construction, compared with $23.2 million last year.
Permits for large projects issued in February included an operating room renovation at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center at $12 million, Nordica Warehouses’ project at Foundation Park at $6 million and Glo hotel at Dawley Farm Village at $4.9 million.
Residential construction is down slightly from 2018 so far this year, with permits issued for 144 total housing units, compared with 164 for the same time last year.
