Book Shop reaches its conclusion

After almost 30 years in business, a used-book store is closing by the end of April.

Book Shop and Gifty Things Vintage owners Jenny Cook and husband Dave Musil are retiring. They haven’t been able to find a buyer for the shop in Park Ridge Galleria at 26th Street and Western Avenue.

The remaining books have been marked down to 50 percent off, and the vintage items are 40 percent off.

The Book Shop opened in 1988 in downtown Sioux Falls on Phillips Avenue and later moved to a space a few doors to the south. Cook started working at the bookstore in 1989 as a clerk. When the original owners retired in 2008, she bought the business. She and Musil eventually added second-hand furniture and home décor to the inventory.

The couple moved the business to Park Ridge in 2014.

When asked what they would be doing in retirement, Musil replied, “I have no idea. I have a honey-do list that’s longer than my arm.”
