Bimbo Bakeries to close Sioux Falls operation, cut 59 jobs

From staff reports

Almost 60 jobs will be eliminated when Pennsylvania-based Bimbo Bakeries USA closes its Sioux Falls production site in September.

The company announced it plans to shift production from the facility at 221 N. Chapel Hill Road in Sioux Falls to Kansas and Nebraska.

The Sioux Falls bakery produces bread and employs 59 associates.

“Making the decision to close a facility is never an easy one,” said Edgar Jaramillo, vice president of region operations. “After careful analysis and consideration, we determined it is most efficient to redistribute production to other bakeries in our system to better meet market demand.”

Human resources representatives will meet with the associates and union representatives to discuss severance and other benefits, as well as resources available to assist associates, the company said in a statement.

“We truly value and respect our dedicated associates at the Sioux Falls bakery and will assist them throughout the transition,” Jaramillo said.

Bimbo Bakeries has more than 20,000 U.S. employees in 50 locations. Its brands include Boboli, Entenmann’s, Nature’s Harvest and Sara Lee.
