‘Big-city’ nail salon to open in Brandon

March 9, 2018

A newcomer to the area but not to his profession is opening a nail salon in Brandon.

Steve Truong, who owned a salon in Nashville, Tenn., before moving to Sioux Falls nine months ago, is the owner of Sassy Nails & Spa. He hopes to open in early May in a year-old retail center on Splitrock Boulevard that includes Gypsy Trading Co. and Beautique.

Sassy Nails & Spa will offer manicures and pedicures, and Troung plans to bring big-city services to the small town. He will hire three or four additional nail technicians.

“Two things are going on in the pedicure industry. Number one is the powders with vitamins and supplements that are food for the nail bed, and the other is organic products. We’ll be doing citrus pedicures, using real orange and lime slices for exfoliation. With the cold weather here, there’s lots of dry skin.”

Customers will sip on complimentary wine and champagne.

Truong, who has always lived in big cities in the South, said he was drawn to Brandon because it’s quiet.

“I kind of like the quiet places. I wanted to stay in a small town and help out the local business community.”

Hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
