B&G Milkyway to open in southeast Sioux Falls next summer

Dec. 18, 2018

B&G Milkyway has found a franchisee for southeast Sioux Falls, and fans will be able to enjoy ice cream treats and food by summertime next year.

The franchisee, a Sioux Falls couple, will operate the new location along 41st Street just east of the Harmodon Park entrance, said Bruce Bettmeng, who owns B&G with his wife, Pam. The Bettmengs will own the land and building, and lease it to the franchisee. The couple isn’t ready to announce their ownership yet, Bettmeng said. The wife worked for him at the B&G on West 12th Street about a decade ago.

“Construction is going to start pretty much immediately as soon as we get the paperwork through the city,” Bettmeng said. He’s closing on the land Wednesday and expects work to begin in the first week of January.

“Our tentative plan is to have it open June 1.”

It will be “pretty much identical” to the B&G at 69th and Louise, Bettmeng said. Customers can order at the drive-thru or inside, but there won’t be seating.

Plans for a Harrisburg site also are moving along, but that location likely won’t open until the spring of 2020, Bettmeng said. The owners of the Sycamore Avenue and Brandon sites have that franchise. A “future site of B&G Milkyway” sign has gone up on the Harrisburg land, which is along Cliff Avenue just west of Fareway. In addition to the franchise, brothers Casey and Travis Iverson will own the land and building, Bettmeng said.
