Avera video visits now available on major telehealth app

From staff reports

AveraNow has been added to the online health care marketplace the Exchange, run by major telehealth company American Well.

Avera offers telehealth video visits 24 hours a day through its AveraNow application, which is available by smartphone or through a computer.

The Exchange will broaden Avera’s reach throughout South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota through the Amwell app, which markets itself as the nation’s most downloaded video telehealth app.

“Expanding the compassionate care our providers offer through the Exchange is a great development for many rural and urban communities across our region,” said Dr. Tad Jacobs, Avera Medical Group chief medical officer.

The Exchange began in May 2016, and the Cleveland Clinic, LiveHealth Online from Anthem and Nemours Children’s Health System were among its earliest adopters.

“We are delighted to welcome Avera providers to the Exchange,” said Roy Schoenberg, CEO of American Well. “Many patients, especially those in underserved rural areas, do not have primary care relationships. By making Avera providers available on Amwell, we can help these patients find their way to an Avera medical provider, no matter where they are located.”
