Attorney returns home after time in D.C., Seattle

March 27, 2018

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Siri Buller, an attorney at Woods, Fuller, Shultz & Smith PC.

Name:  Siri (Mielke) Buller

Age: 35

Hometown: Hartford

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

A number of things brought us to Sioux Falls, but ultimately it was my husband’s dream job. The other major factor was our son, who was a year old at the time and whose grandparents all live here. We were excited for him to get to know his grandparents better and were also pretty happy to have their help with him!

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

My husband and I lived in Washington, D.C., and Seattle prior to moving back, so we can’t help but notice that Sioux Falls has afforded us a higher quality of life. Admittedly, I was afraid I would miss the access to the conveniences and businesses that larger cities offer, but I had forgotten how easy it is to live here and connect with other people when we aren’t spending as much time in traffic or waiting in line. There certainly is less stress involved in getting around Sioux Falls and in raising kids here, which has been a more-than-welcome change. We’re also thrilled about all of the businesses that have either started or grown in Sioux Falls over the last 10 years, and we spend a lot of our newfound time enjoying the city’s restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores and retail shops.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

No question, my favorite thing about my job is connecting with clients. There is nothing better than using my experience to meet the needs of a business owner, a health care provider or a young family putting together their first estate plan. It’s also extremely rewarding to advise our nonprofit clients and to have the opportunity to support their charitable work.

How did you get connected to your industry?

If you ask my family, they’ll tell you that I started talking about becoming a lawyer from a pretty young age. I wasn’t even sure that I wanted to practice law when I started law school, but I was very confident that I wanted to study it. Once I finished school and started practicing, I was hooked.

Describe Woods Fuller in three words.

History. Integrity. Excellence.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

Whole Foods.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I am excited to continue to grow in my practice at Woods and to be able to offer even more to our clients with five additional years of experience. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to learn more every day from the incredible attorneys at our firm, and I look forward to continuing to serve our community in the outstanding way that Woods has been serving it for over 130 years.
